Zurich Area Gets Funding to Add a Nurse Practitioner
New Government funding means more programs and more consistent care
(Zurich) – The Bluewater Area Family Health Team (BAFHT) will be able to provide more service and more patient care with the addition of another Nurse Practitioner at the Family Health Team in Zurich.
“This is something we have been working hard to obtain and we are very grateful to our MPP Lisa Thompson for going to bat for us to make this happen,“ announced Dwayne LaPorte, Chair of BAFHT.
“I am beyond pleased that the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has provided this special funding of $149,668 to the Bluewater Area Family Health Team,” said Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson. “This announcement will help continue the excellent front-line health care for local residents,” she added.
The additional funding allows the Zurich location to better support patients without them having to drive long distances to go to walk-in clinics to get the care they want, need and expect in their own community.
“We have an excellent new facility here in Zurich, but like all rural communities, we are challenged in attracting and retaining physicians. This new funding for a Nurse Practitioner will help us to stabilize care and meet the needs of our community’s population by increasing our programs and services,” added BAFHT Executive Director, Paula Kroll.
“I have been working for several months with volunteers and staff at BAFHT to obtain this much needed money. I want to thank everyone involved for their patience as we worked through the Ministry and for their dedication to local health care. Their commitment is inspiring,” Thompson said.
Ms. Kroll says the campaign to bring another Physician to the community has also met with success and there will be more good news coming soon.
