ICECULTURE’S WACKABOUT GOLF TOURNAMENT
Wackabout Golf Tourney Raises More Than $10,000!
A steady, light rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the 90 or so golfers taking part in the Wackabout golf tournament, organized by Iceculture to raise funds for the Bluewater Area Family Health Team (BAFHT) clinic in Zurich. This was the fourth annual tournament to be held at the new White Squirrel Golf Club in St. Joseph, ON. Two foursomes shared the top prize with a score of minus 8.
Thanks have to go to all the sponsors and of course, the players. Executive Director Paula Kroll, assisted by BAFHT Board of Directors, Francine Vanasse and Sandy Shaw, helped with serving lunch and dinner while Chairman of the Board, Dwayne Laporte fielded a foursome of his own in the tournament. Director, Dave MacLaren and his wife Jane entered another team with two more MacLaren’s playing as a twosome.
‘It was great to see more local participation this year, both in sponsorship and players’, says organizer, Julian Bayley of Iceculture. ‘We must also give credit to the White Squirrel team of Brittany Nigh and Dusty Carter who helped stage the event. Running a tournament in a large tent away from the club house while construction of the new facility is underway, was not an easy undertaking’.
Pineridge Barbecue provided the chicken and rib dinner and Dusty Carter’s idea of a ‘walking taco’ lunch was a unique presentation enjoyed by all.
At the end of the day, BAFHT was the overall winner with more than $10,000 being raised for new programs at the clinic. Prizes are awarded in three categories – tournament winner, leading couples and all ladies team, a category where three foursomes shared the honors.
